Know your Guild President

By Bena Nekesa

Leadership at the Law Development Centre (LDC) is not just a title. It is a journey of service, resilience and sacrifice. Three guild presidents from LDC Kampala, Lira and Mbarara campuses briefly share some experiences. Take a look at snapshots of John Vianny Ayebare, Alex Wavamunno and Mutesasira Experito Mpologoma, whose commitment to their peers and legal practice shines.

John Vianny Ayebare – Kampala Campus

I come from Kanungu District, and I went to Kiihwa Primary School in Isingiro then Makerere University for a Bachelor of Business Administration and later a Bachelor of Laws. Now, I am at the LDC Kampala Campus, where I find leadership a fulfilling opportunity to serve my colleagues.

As a guild president, I strive to contribute positively to students’ welfare. I did not offer anything for votes, but my fellow students chose me with trust that I would lead them. LDC equips us with practical legal skills, and there is a lot that we do that comes with pressure, sacrifice and less sleep.

Leadership is my passion, but I also enjoy football and personal growth. The guild presidency role calls for responsibility. This means that students expect me to be their voice, advocating for a clean environment, good and accessible health services and an enabling learning space. That is why my campaign slogan was: “Together to the end.”  We shall co-operate with the administration for the success of our endeavours.

Alex Wavamunno – Lira Campus

I am a Makerere University Bachelor of Laws graduate. I bring confidence and self-belief to student leadership at the Lira Campus. I did not contest alone; we were four candidates in the guild race, but I believed in my potential. The voters saw it too, and I won with a landslide. Our constitution says, “I shall be the spokesperson for the students,” and that is what I am doing.

LDC is a place that demands hard work and dedication. It requires one to read a lot and complete tasks. In addition, living in Northern Uganda is a new enriching experience for me.  I find joy in playing golf, swimming and politics.

Experito Mutesasira Mpologoma – Mbarara Campus

I am a leader and an aspiring advocate. LDC is like a full-time job, and it has demanding tasks and learning experiences. The beauty is that despite this situation, we learn from experienced advocates and judges who are preparing us to become practical lawyers.

My leadership is defined by communication, problem-solving and teamwork. I am passionate about advocating for students’ rights and promoting academic excellence and my goal is to create a supportive environment where everyone thrives. I am also interested in making new friends, volunteering, reading, traveling and meditation. These keep me grounded and balanced. As a guild president, my mission is clear: To address students’ concerns and ensure that there is an inclusive environment where everyone can reach their full potential.
